There’s a new movement in children’s dietary health, being led by Dr. Alan Greene, a Pediatrician from Stanford. The idea is that children eat too many refined, processed carbs, and part of the problem may be the foods we are feeding them from the get go, specifically rice cereal. Giving them rice cereal early on may give children a taste for refined foods, that later in life leads to obesity. Instead, he suggests, we should start with whole grains and real foods.

I haven’t seen any good scientific data to back this up, but it does make sense. We know whole grains are better for us than refined carbs, and starting our babies off on them is probably a good idea.
